27th January 2014

I think of January as a kind of lying-low, hibernating month..a time for getting out the seed catalogues and keeping warm and safe..maybe a bit of knitting to make you feel you're still doing something useful...

I made this cover for my Kindle last week..only took me a few hours and it was very easy..only a bit of shaping at the bottom and some rib at the top to keep it from slipping off.
Of course the weather has been SO awful..not known a winter like it for storms and flooding. I took this photo down the road at Beaumaris a couple of weeks ago...such a pallette of grey tones...see how choppy the sea is...

I don't know about you but I still keep my teddy and favourite doll from childhood. My doll sits on my Welsh dresser most of the time. Her clothes were knitted by my Great Aunt Margaret... pants, leggings, vest, dress, coat and bonnet. My aunt died many years ago but little-doll-Susan reminds me of her. This is how she looks now and the snap is me as a toddler holding her!!

We haven't had rain every day, though it's perhaps hard to remember much sun. This photo was taken looking over the Menai Straits at sunrise last week..amazing the stillness of the water compared to the wild waves and high tides of recent weeks and such a contrast in colour to the photo I took at Beaumaris...

The only colour in my garden at the moment is the little primula below. I have been busy buying seeds as a promise of things to come..sweet peas, tomatoes, courgettes and poppies...roll on spring..I can't wait :-)   Ciao for now. xx
